Understanding an ACT registration check

Start with the ACT numberplate and use the official registration enquiry when you need the government record. Compare the vehicle details before relying on the result.

Sources checked · Maintained by AUCN

Independent registration information. This website is operated by AUCN and is not a government service. Rego information and a paid PPSR or vehicle history report cover different things.

Check the right plate and territory

Access Canberra provides a registration-status enquiry using the numberplate. Recheck the entered characters and territory if a result does not match the vehicle.

  • Use the current plate rather than one from an old advertisement.
  • Compare the vehicle with its documents.
  • Ask Access Canberra about unexplained record differences.

Registration and insurance are related but distinct

The ACT registration process includes selection of Motor Accident Injuries scheme insurance. A rego enquiry does not buy insurance or assess whether a vehicle is mechanically sound.

  • Read any conditions alongside the registration status.
  • Use the insurer or Access Canberra for policy questions.
  • Arrange a separate vehicle inspection when needed.

Before you buy

An active rego result is only one part of checking a used vehicle. Security-interest searches and registration transfer are separate steps.
